The Sherman family in Texas is about to break a 108-year tradition of only having boys, as they prepare to welcome their first baby girl. Michael Sherman Jr., a firefighter in Montgomery County, and his wife, Joacquia, shared the exciting news during a family gathering on September 7th.

“It feels amazing. I am so honored that after more than a century, our family will finally have a baby girl,” Michael said.

The last girl born into the Sherman family was Orah Belle Sherman, who was born in 1917.

In a heartwarming moment at their Texas home, Michael Sherman Jr., his wife, and their son proudly announced the upcoming arrival of their first daughter, breaking the long-standing family tradition of having only sons. CNN captured the emotional moment.

Michael’s father, Michael Sherman Sr., emphasized how momentous this event is for the family. “I have three sons, my father had two, and so did my uncle. Our family has always had boys,” he said.

Grandmother Chantene Newman is convinced that the future granddaughter will make history in the Sherman family. “I believe she’s going to do something truly special,” she said.

The baby girl is expected to arrive in March 2026 and will be the younger sibling of Mekhai, the family’s 5-year-old son.

The Sherman family is also considering reaching out to the Guinness World Records to see if their remarkable family history of only having boys qualifies for any record recognition.
