Tech billionaire Elon Musk — founder of Tesla and SpaceX — has officially regained the title of the world’s richest person, according to the 2025 Forbes World Billionaires List released on April 1.

With a staggering net worth of $342 billion, Musk has surpassed French luxury magnate Bernard Arnault, ending the LVMH family’s dominance at the top of the ranking.

After losing the No. 1 spot in 2023, Musk made a spectacular comeback as his wealth surged by $147 billion in a single year — a 1.75-fold increase compared to the previous year.

Standing in second place on the global billionaire list is Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Meta (the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). Over the past year, Zuckerberg’s fortune grew by $39 billion, reaching $216 billion, marking the first time he has risen to the runner-up position.

Close behind, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos holds firm in third place with a total net worth of $215 billion, just $1 billion short of Zuckerberg. Meanwhile, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison continues to strengthen his position with $192 billion, placing him fourth in the ranking.

This year’s Forbes list marks a historic milestone: for the first time ever, the number of billionaires worldwide has surpassed 3,000, reaching a total of 3,028, an increase of 247 compared to last year. The combined wealth of the global ultra-rich has grown by $2 trillion, bringing the total to $16.1 trillion.

The United States remains the country with the highest number of billionaires at 902, followed by China (including Hong Kong) with 516, and India with 205.
